Exercise and Heart Health

While watching CBS morning news today, they reported that heart attacks are the leading cause of death in the United States, killing someone every 84 seconds. Lack of exercise was stated as the main cause. 40% of Americans are getting less than the recommended amount of exercise. The recommended amounts are:
- 150 minutes of moderate activity a week. Ex: brisk walking
- 75 minutes of vigorous activity a week. Ex: running
Exercise Benefits for Heart Health:
- Increase blood flow
- Decrease blood pressure
- Improves cholesterol levels
- Reduces blood vessel inflammation
Reasons people give for not exercising:
- 41% say it because of work
- 37% say their too tired
- 28% say they have family and friend obligations
- 14% say they are too out of shape
