Basic Green Smoothie Recipe
Green Smoothies are delicious and simple to make. A basic recipe for making a good green smoothie is 50% green leafy vegetables and 50% fruit. Green Smoothies are a good way to ensure that you and your children are getting enough green leafy vegetables. Have fun creating your own recipes. You can make a smoothie with almost any fruits and veggies you have in the refrigerator.
Green Smoothies are great because:
- they taste good
- easy to make
- provide you with micronutrients, vitamins and minerals the body requires
- reduce cravings for non-healthy foods
- stop the urge to eat between meals.
Ingredients:
3 handfuls of greens; chard, kale, spinach, arugula and spring lettuce (collards, turnips, mustards are very pungent so you can add 1 or two leave with any of the other greens)
1 banana
1 avocado
1 cup blue berries
1 cup strawberries or mango
1 cup of green or red grapes
1 tsp cinnamon (optional)
2 heaping tablespoons of organic plain yogurt. (optional)
1 scoop of whey protein power (mix in after blended for 5 seconds and it's optional)
3 cups of watermelon (if in season)
Note: You will always need a liquid base to make your smoothie. If watermelon is not in season you can use 16oz of almond milk, home made lemon aide, water, tea or fresh squeezed fruit juice.
Note: Please modify this recipe to suit your taste by using different fruits, less fruit and more greens. Always make sure at least 50% of the ingredients are green leafy vegetables.
Note: You can boost the healing power of green smoothies by adding add herb and spices t a dash of: ginger, turmeric, cayenne pepper, garlic
Directions:
Put all ingredients in high powered blender (1000-1500 watts) and blend until smooth and enjoy. Makes 48 to 64 ounces.
