How To Get Rid Of Your Potbelly!

How To Get Rid Of Your Potbelly!

Picture
Well, the sun is shinning this morning.  But this doesn’t imply that all is well! At least not in our house.  We need to fix the 20 year old wrought iron fence in the back yard; as well as replace the rubber washer in our shower faucet.  Maintenance isn’t part of my idea of retirement.
But then, viewing that maintenance of a home is similar to maintaining your car ... you know like changing the oil and cleaning the windshield and so on.  Like your car getting rid of exhaust gases from engine combustion, so your body gets rid of the immediate big wastes we all refer to as “going to the toilet to poo-poo and wee-wee” or waste dumping.
So why this blurb about my troubles of retirement?
Because in addition to daily waste dumping we need to also do hidden maintenance on the drainage system in our human body .... every day. Our bodies need constant tune ups.   Most of us don’t think of this in this way but that is what we must do and not neglect.  This brings me to sharing an idea with you. I recently discovered some new info about body maintenance and how to do it at all ages.  And I appreciate your patience with this story.
This story is based on new information that I never heard of before.  It is about  how the lymphatic system works and when the lymphatic system is stagnant or not moving, our body dumps the fluid wastes from the lymphatic system into spaces between tissues, like the stomach and hips [ the beer belly ].  Why dump wastes into interstitial tissues [holding bins] like the stomach?  Because that is supposed to be a temporary holding place, until the lymphatic system can empty what excesses it has in its system vessels. So when the body can’t dispose of wastes fast enough, all the wastes back up just like a kitchen sink can overflow when the drain is plugged up.  And your body reacts by inflating your stomach and filling up in the lymph vessels, making you feel sluggish, bloated, sick and so on.
In order for the lymphatic system to drain, we need to open the end of the drainage system ... the large colon, the pathways to the liver where fat soluble toxic chemicals are converted into water soluble by-metabolites and then clean the pathway to the kidneys to allow this drainage system to start flowing.  We need to help open your drainage system.
Your body's drainage is the Lymphatic system that is compose of your tonsils, thymus, bone marrow, spleen, lymathic fluid, vessels and lymph nodes. You have three times mor lymph fluid than blood. The lymphatic ststen is your main detoxification system.  It rids you of toxins such as dead and canceous cells, nitrogenous wastes, fat, infectious viruses, heavy metals and other assorted junk coast off by the cells.
The body does all the waste clearance easily when we are young and when we run,   jump and exercise.  But in older age, we often slow down and don’t exercise as much as we should. So the waste, or toxins, simply pile up in the body [ aah! the pot belly! ].  And this toxic waste pileup causes all kinds of health problems for us, like skin rashes, auto-immune disorders, cancer and so on.
You can view two videos below for more information on how the lymphatic system works:
John Thomas explains lymphatic system 2:47 mns
The key to moving the lymph in the body is body movement or exercise: skipping rope, trampoline, ball bouncing, walking, running, playing sports, running up and down stairs.  Moving the lymph is referred to as rebounding, although rebounding is also a term associated with the mini-trampoline known as a rebounder. The rebounding motion stimulates all internal organs, moves the cerebral-spinal fluid, cleanses the blood system and is beneficial for the intestines. The condition of both our bloodstream and lymphatic system is the barometer of our health.
So one way to start moving the wastes is to get the lymphatic system to move.  The lymphatic system has no pump like the blood system.  So we need to use our skeletal muscles to push against the lymph vessels and squeeze the lymph fluid out in a one way direction --- out into the blood circulatory system and eventually into the kidneys, forming urine; thereby making more room for more drainage.  Exercise is the key.
Rebounding is the new exercise term for this movement process. The movement performed in rebounding provides the stimulus for a free-flowing system that drains away these potential poisons. Rebounding is a lymphatic exercise. As your lymphatic system collects the wastes from your blood vessels, it moves these wastes into temporary storage sites like lymph nodes and interstitial areas.  The lymphatic system is your garbage can and exercise helps to empty the system everyday.
At our golden age, it gets harder and harder to exercise. Hence, the lymphatic wastes can pile up in the stomach area over time.   But rebounding may be a good salvation.  If you can at least walk a mile or more, then you can stimulate the lymph system to circulate and move the lymph fluid.  It will be slow but effective.
If you are like many, semi-disabled for various reasons, then you can use a balance ball.  Yes, sit on the ball, control your balance and bounce your bottom on the ball while keeping your balance. Do this for 3 to 5 minutes per session and repeat about three times a day.  The bouncing up and down contracts the skeletal muscles in the abdominal area as well as other parts of the body and moves the lymph fluid out into the blood system and eventually into the kidneys; thereby removing toxins from the body.  This is slow but effective body detoxification by way of rebounding.  This is your body's special and natural detoxification system!
There are other options than walking or running or the balance ball approaches.  But for seniors and disabled persons, the balance ball is inexpensive and easy to use.  You can buy a balance ball at a sports store or perhaps even Walmart for less than $20.00.
A word of caution:  I found that sitting on top of the balance ball can be unstable at times and you can lose your balance.  I make sure that I do the balance ball activity near a furniture where I can hold on to or reach for in case I do feel falling.  The second thing I do is to place my butt on the center of the ball, my feet on the floor and my hands behind my back on the ball for more stable balance. Bounce slowly at first to get the feel.

Is Corn Syrup Causing  You To Be Sick and Gain Weight?

Is Corn Syrup Causing You To Be Sick and Fat?

Farmers are growing corn that is used to make a special type of sweetener called high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS). It costs 30% less to procuce than beet sugar, which is sucrose. Consequently it is used to sweeten almost all processed foods in grocery stores and in restaurants. This sweetener is hidden from you as it is mixed into the food. For example, corn syrup is added to pancake mix, to pancake syrup and to ketchup. You can’t see it, but it makes the food taste better and so you eat more of the food and the corn syrup.

So what is so bad about corn syrup as a sweetener?
Corn syrup has been linked to causing a number of health problems: notably obesity and diabetes, and suspected in causing cardiovascular disorders and colorectal cancer in women. Some persons are allergic to corn and will get sick from corn syrup,
causing health problems. Although the link to obesity is belittled by papers and research paid for by the corn industry independent research validates the concern over corn syrup and health. Corn syrup alone is not the sole cause of obesity. There are other contributing causes. The controversy is more about the government subsidies for corn.

How does HFCS affects your metabolism and digestion?
In order to understanding just how corn syrup disrupts the normal functioning of metabolism and digestion in the body, one has to examine its biochemistry. Corn syrup is made up of a two simple sugars: fructose and glucose. Fructose is digested differently from common sugars like glucose. For example, Glucose causes fat cells to release the hormone leptin that makes you feel full. Glucose also prevents the stomach from releasing the hormone ghrelin that makes you hungry. The leptin makes you feel full so you eat less. [ 2.

On the other hand, fructose does not cause fat cells to release leptin and does not suppress ghrelin. This means that fructose increases hunger to make you eat more. Furthermore, the liver converts fructose far more readily to a body fat called triglyceride, than it does with glucose.

How does HFCS cause you to overeat?
The main point being made is that fructose adds to overeating because it does not trigger chemical messengers that tell the brain the stomach is full and to stop eating! Instead, the brain tells you that you are still hungrey. Eat More! and then a little more! Now, don't the extra calories feel good, especially around the stomach? Your brain remembers this and the next time you go out to eat, your brain says"Hey, get me that corn syrup food!" Your brain sends you a message to eat the food again! It seems that the corn syrup has conditioned your brain into eating corn syrup again.... " a possible addiction??"

The end result is that our bodies are essentially tricked into wanting to eat more and at the same time, we are storing more fat. It becomes easy now to link corn syrup to obesity. People eating foods and drinking beverage drinks with corn syrup eat more; they take in more calories than their body needs and store the excess calories as body fat. Numerous researchers have confirmed that there is a relationship between corn syrup and the obese epidemic in the United States and Canada.

Major Problem: The exact amount of corn syrup used in various foods is a company secret and difficult to uncover. Processed foods sold in grocery stores must print on the label all ingredients in the food item, including corn syrup or HFCS but not the amount. The closer it is near the beginning of the label the greater percent amount.

What do you do?
Three major places where corn syrup may be found or used in foods:

1. Grocery stores: many if not most processed foods use HFCS. Before buying, read the small fine print on the Label
Read the Labels & look for corn syrup in small print. Don't buy product if the label has corn syrup or HFCS on the label.
2. Fast food restaurants: Best to avoid eating fast foods. HFCS is hidden in buns, soft drinks, pastry, desserts, ketchup and sauces..

3. Restaurants all kinds: HFCS may be hidden in soft drinks, pastry, desserts, ketchup and sauces. No one knows whether corn syrup is used, how much, etc.. “Ask the waitress to ask the cook if corn syrup is in the food you want to order. [ They probably don’t know].
4.  Eat & COOK at home: Cook your own food in your kitchen, don’t use corn syrup ingredients, poly saturated or saturated fats. You need to avoid corn syrup.
Get control of your life and start eating a healthy diet.

5.  Avoid food products with high fructose corn syrup, this list is incomplete:
  • applesauce
  • Breads white
  • Candy, marshmellows
  • Cereals with the Heart Healthy Claims
  • Chocolate bars
  • Coffee whiteners
  • Desserts: Pies, Puddings
  • English muffins
  • Hot dog buns
  • Ice Cream: including Sandwiches
  • Jellies
  • Ketchup: 1 tbsp = 1 tspn sugar
  • Pancakes, hotcakes, waffles
  • Pastry: cinnamon buns, bran muffins, cakes
  • Pizza crust & dough
  • Processed foods
  • Salad Dressings: especially “ lite” and “reduced calorie”
  • Smoothies: e.g. Hansen's Super Vita orange-carrot: 10 teaspoons of sugar
  • Snack foods
  • Sodas: 12oz = 13 tspns hi-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) Example: Sunkist, Coca Cola and Pepsi
  • Spaghetti sauce
  • Special K cereal
  • Syrups: pancake
  • Yogurt: e.g. lowfat fruit flavores = 10 tspns HFCS
  • Yoplait Yogurt all varieties
This list is Incomplete so be sure to read food Label.

These substitutes should be free of corn syrup. But always read the label:
Remember these substitutes for corn syrup are still sugar and sugar has calories! You replace one evil with another. Use them sparingly:
  • granulated sugar
  • brown sugar rice syrup or glucose syrup
  • maple syrup
  • molasses
  • honey
  • treacle

The Cause and Prevention Of Alzheimers!

Picture
Alzheimer’s Poem
Do not ask me to remember. Do not try to make me understand. Let me rest and know you’re with me. Kiss my cheek and hold my hand. I’m confused beyond your concept. I am sad and sick and lost. All I know is that I need you to be with me at all cost. Do not loose your patience with me. Do not scold or curse my cry. I can’t help the way I’m acting, can’t be different though I try. Just remember that I need you. That the best of me is gone. Please don’t fail to stand beside me, Love me until my life is done.

Alzheimers is a horrific disease, it slowly and painfully caused my mother's health, memory and quality of life to deteriorate and eventually took her life. It was a long and painful experience for the entire family. This horrible disease is predicted to be the next major epidemic. It has finally been classified as type 3 diabetes, yes it caused by what you eat. There are four food groups that causes type 3 diabetes /alzheimer: white flour products, processed cheese, these meats; smoked bacon, ham and turkey, and beer. Food education is essential to preventing the onset of alzheimer. I have included key information regarding alzheimer cause and prevention in both of my books: How To Eat Healthy and Reverse Type 2 Diabetes and Make Food Your Medicine and Medicine Your Food. Both books are available on my website: https://www.makefoodmedicne.com and www.amazon.com.

When did genetically modified foods originate?

"Genetic engineering is inherently dangerous, because it greatly expands the scope for horizontal gene transfer and recombination, precisely the processes that create new viruses and bacteria that cause disease epidemics, and trigger cancer in cells."
 - Dr. Mae-Wan Ho

Between 1997 and 1999, gene-modified (GM) ingredients suddenly appeared in 2/3rds of all US processed foods. This food alteration was fueled by a single Supreme Court ruling. It allowed, for the first time, the patenting of life forms for commercialization. Since then thousands of applications for experimental GM organisms have been filed with the US Patent Office alone, and many more abroad.
The first commercially grown genetically modified whole food crop was the tomato (called Flavr Savr), which was made more resistant to rotting by Californian company Calgene. The tomatoes were released into the market in 1994 without any special labeling.
In February 1996, J. Sainsbury and Safeway Stores in the United Kingdom introduced Europe's first genetically-modified food product. A variant of the Flavr Savr was used by Zeneca to produce tomato paste which was sold in Europe during the summer of 1996. Following GM crops included insect resistant cotton and herbicide-tolerant soybeans both of which were commercially available in 1996.
In 2003, countries that grew 99 % of the global transgenic crops were the United States (63 %), Argentina (21 %), Canada (6 %), Brazil (4 %), China (4 %), and South Africa (1 %) and today the Grocery Manufacturers of America estimate that 75 % of all processed foods in the U.S. contain a GM ingredient.
Between 1995 and 2005, the total surface area of land cultivated with GMOs had increased by a factor of 50, from 17,000 km2 (4.2 million acres) to 900,000 km2 (222 million acres), of which 55 percent were in Brazil.
In the US, by 2006 89 % of the planted area of soybeans, 83 % of cotton, and 61 % maize were genetically modified varieties.
Today many Gmod crops are grown in North America. India has also come aboard the bandwagon in 2002 with a rapid and continuing expansion of GM cotton varieties.

When Did Genetic Modified Organism Appear In Our Food?

3. Genetically Modified Foods in the United States

Today, in the United States, 85 % of corn, 91% of soybeans and 88% of cotton are genetically engineered. Plus, 75% of processed foods on supermarket shelves contain some genetically engineered (GE) food products. Consumers across the United States are getting anxious about the safety of genetically modified foods. This awareness comes as no surprise as it is yet to be proven safe. In 1998, even the U.S. FDA admitted in court saying it has made "no dis-positive scientific findings," about the safety of genetically engineered foods...

Genetic modification of food is not new - For centuries, food crops and animals have been altered through selective breeding. While genes can be transferred during selective breeding, the scope for exchanging genetic material is much wider using genetic engineering. In theory, genetic engineering allows genetic material to be transferred between any organism, including between plants and animals. For example, the gene from a fish that lives in very cold seas has been inserted into a strawberry, allowing the fruit to be frost-tolerant.

By far the most common genetically modified (GM) organisms are crop plants. But the technology has now been applied to almost all forms of life, from pets that glow under UV light to bacteria which form HIV blocking "living condoms" and from pigs bearing spinach genes to goats that produce spider silk.

Definition of Genetically Modified Foods

Picture
Genetically Modified Food is defined as food items that has had their DNA changed through genetic engineering. Unlike conventional genetic modification that is carried out through time-tested conventional breeding of plants and animals. Combining genes from different organisms is known as recombinant DNA technology, and the resulting organism is said to be "genetically modified," "genetically engineered," or "transgenic." GM products include medicines and vaccines, foods and food ingredients, feeds, and fibers.

Are Genetically Modified Foods Safe?

Picture
"History has many records of crimes against humanity, which were also justified by dominant commercial interests and governments of the day. Despite protests from citizens, social justice for the common good was eroded in favor of private profits. Today, patenting of life forms and the genetic engineering which it stimulates, is being justified on the grounds that it will benefit society, especially the poor, by providing better and more food and medicine. But in fact, by monopolizing the 'raw' biological materials, the development of other options is deliberately blocked. Farmers therefore, become totally dependent on the corporations for seeds." - Professor Wangari Mathai.--------------------

"Any politician or scientist who tells you these products are safe is either very stupid or lying. The hazards of these foods are uncertain. In view of our enormous ignorance, the premature application of biotechnology is downright dangerous." - David Suzuki, CC, OBC, Ph.D LLD, Geneticist.-

While watching CBS morning news today, they reported that heart attacks are the leading cause of death in the United States, killing someone every 84 seconds. Lack of exercise was stated as the main cause. 40% of Americans are getting less than the recommended amount of exercise. The recommended amounts are:
- 150 minutes of moderate activity a week. Ex: brisk walking
- 75 minutes of vigorous activity a week. Ex: running
Exercise Benefits for Heart Health:
- Increase blood flow
- Decrease blood pressure
- Improves cholesterol levels
- Reduces blood vessel inflammation
Reasons people give for not exercising:
- 41% say it because of work
- 37% say their too tired
- 28% say they have family and friend obligations
- 14% say they are too out of shape
It is important to put yourself, your heart health first. Make exercise a priority, your heart will love you for it. Its never to late to start. Let's Pump It Up!
